RL Productions Signs Singer-Songwriter Ben Chavez to Artist Roster

Houston-based singer-songwriter joins independent label ahead of new single “Glitter Is My Favorite Color” and forthcoming album Last Day, County Fair

DALLAS / ALICANTE — September 21, 2026 — Independent record label and music company RL Productions has signed Houston-based singer-songwriter and performer Ben Chavez to its artist roster, marking the label’s first signing under a new developing-artist initiative focused on helping independent artists build sustainable careers while retaining ownership and creative control of their music.

The partnership will provide Chavez with label services including global distribution, release strategy and project management, digital marketing, playlist development, catalog management, analytics and other promotional support.

Chavez’s first release under the new partnership will be “Glitter Is My Favorite Color,” arriving September 25; an upbeat, affirmation-driven pop song about self-acceptance, courage and allowing yourself to shine. The single coincides with the world premiere of Chavez’s Last Day, County Fair, presented by Performing Arts Houston, September 25–26 as part of its NEW/NOW Commissioning Project.

“Ben is exactly the kind of artist I hoped to work with when I began thinking about expanding RL Productions,” said Russ Lorenson, founder of RL Productions. “He’s an extraordinary singer and songwriter with a clear artistic point of view, but just as importantly, he’s interested in building something for the long term. My goal isn’t to change what makes Ben’s music his. It’s to put the infrastructure, strategy and experience around it that allows him to spend more of his time doing what he does best: creating.”

The collaboration grew organically after Lorenson encountered Chavez’s music through his work as an independent playlist curator. Chavez’s recording “Finally Home For Christmas” became a standout performer on RL Productions’ Swingin’ Christmas Party playlist, generating over 30,000 streams from the playlist during the 2025 holiday season. That success led Lorenson to explore Chavez’s broader catalog and, ultimately, to conversations about a larger working relationship.

Chavez brings an existing catalog of original recordings to RL Productions and will release his forthcoming album, Last Day, County Fair, through the label in early 2027. The album grew from Chavez’s selection for Performing Arts Houston’s NEW/NOW Commissioning Project and expands the work developed for its live world premiere into a full-length recording project.

Alongside his recording career, Chavez is a professional stage performer and will return to New York this holiday season for his third season as a featured vocalist in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.

For Lorenson, himself an independent recording artist, the Chavez partnership represents an expansion of a model developed through two decades of releasing and marketing his own music.

“Independent artists have more tools available to them than ever before, but that has also created an expectation that artists become experts in everything from distribution and rights management to digital marketing, playlisting and data analytics,” Lorenson said. “Artists need time to write, record and perform. They shouldn’t have to spend all of it figuring out the machinery required to get their music into the world and build an audience for it. I’ve spent years building that machinery around my own career. Under the agreement, Chavez retains ownership of his master recordings while RL Productions provides the infrastructure and services surrounding their release and development.
